It's hard to see in this photo, but there are three saw stations, one router station, and four drill stations on this machine. Door jambs and headers are cut to size, drilled for assembly screws, and the router cuts slots for the door handle. The standard sizes are preprogrammed into the machine, but the operator is able to enter custom lengths. This machine is similar to the edge cover saw. The machine has the capacity to hold four full length extrusions, enough to make two complete doors. The cycle time of the machine is around 1 minute per door. That includes all the holes for assembly and the door latch slots. |

This is a close up of one of the saw spindles. The length of the parts cut on this machine is held to +/-.005 inches. |

This is the router that cuts the slots for the door handle. The length of the slot can be changed and position of the slot can be placed almost anywhere on the extrusion when cutting custom doors. A vacuum system is connected to the machine to gather as many chips as possible. Here you can see ducts that have been attached to the router that are just above the extrusion when the machine is running. |

The drill units are used to put starter holes in the extrusions for the assembly screws. Since the gussets used to assemble the doors are the same no matter the door size, the drill units are fixed relative to the cut length. |
